Travel 10 minutes  and visit Montendre, a small Market town for all your essential needs with a weekly produce market. Take a stroll in the town and walk to the castle, a beautiful site and look out point. In July and August a weekly night market with a selection of local street food vendors and live Music. An annual music festival is held in June on the 10 hectare site of lakes and woodland where you can walk, cycle, fish, swim in the lakes or take part in numerous water sports.
If you’re heading in that direction, don’t miss the Mysterra maze park in Montendre or the nature reserve at Maison de la Forêt in Montlieu-la-Garde 
 
Travel 20 minutesand visit:
Barbezieux-Saint-Hilaire with its stunning castle that dates from 1453, array of shops, restaurants and cafes.
Jonzac, a picturesque town with its own château, church and many beautiful buildings. It is also a spa resort , which also has an eco-friendly exotic water park Les Antilles de Jonzac , a tropical lagoon with a wave pool, slide, jacuzzi, fitness centre and beauty spa, its water is heated by geothermal energy.
 
Blaye Citadel, a 17th Century walled city built to protect Bordeaux from sea invasions on the Gironde estuary, a listed historic monument and Unesco world heritage site.
 
Travel 45 minutes to an hour and visit:
Angouleme, a small city sitting high above the river Charente surrounded by ramparts. classified as a city of Art and History and the French capital of the comic strip with its own dedicated museum and   street art with 25 murals to seek.  There are many buildings of historical interest including Saint Pierre cathedral dating from the 12th century.
 
Cognac famous for its spirits take a distillery tour spoilt for choice with Hennessy, Martell, Remy Martin and Courvisier to choose from. A beautiful riverside town with an abundance of historical buildings .
 
Travel along the Gironde Estuary visit Talmont -sur -Gironde known for its  architectural heritage and charm with the Church of St Radegonde perched on the cliff.
 
Enjoy a day in Royan, an historic seaside resort that has five sandy beaches,a marina for over 1000 boats and an active fishing port. The town is classified as a town of art and history; the architecture ranges vastly from Belle Epoque style to modernist 1950’s cube homes.
 
Bordeaux the wine city of France and Unesco world heritage site with a dedicated cultural centre  Known for its historical buildings and Art, a port lying along the river Garonne with over 350 listed historical monuments to see.
